Safari Park 50th Milestone 18

MILESTONE 18

THE LAST STAND

By 1987, the situation for the California condors remaining in their native habitats had deteriorated. There were only 27 condors left, and it was clear that something urgent needed to be done to recover the species. Permission was granted to bring the remaining wild birds into the Safari Park and the Los Angeles Zoo to keep them safe so they could become part of the breeding program.
